Online Advertising

“Explicit memory stores specific information like slogans, Web addresses or attributes of products. Implicit memory is unconscious, and is set off later, for example, when someone browses store shelves.” - Chan Yun Yoo

It’s quite interesting how online advertisements impact internet users. It’s not necessarily all about the CTR (Click Through Rate) of an advertisement. Some advertisers are worrying more about their impressions (how many times their ad is displayed). Why? Because the more their advertisement is displayed, the more exposure they get to build a brand and be recognized.

Banner advertisements and other means of advertisements have been proven to work as well and even better than advertisements in the traditional media. Online advertisements are setting a standard that traditional media can not. Through online advertisements researchers and businesses can gather data and get results a lot quicker, something of which isn’t possible through television ads, newspaper ads, and radio ads.

Also, a new web 2.0 word has been coined just recently. Bacn refers to “messages such as e-mail newsletters, Facebook friend requests, Twitter updates and the like that are wanted but not needed. Notifications you want.”
