Sophisticated emails are being disguised as bills from supposed business partners

Phishers, also known as spammers, are now targeting high corporate and business executives. Sophisticated emails are being sent out to these high executives in hopes of gaining more valuable information. Dave Jevans, chairman of the Anti-Phishing Working Group said “When you get one of these things they’re so well crafted, they look real. It’s a lot more lucrative than stealing a credit card number and making small purchases.”

Victims who open these emails and click on links or open attachments are being infected with malware. The malware infection allows the phisher to have access to the corporate banking network, financial account logins, and much more valuable data.

The phishers behind these attacks are making the emails look more real than ever. The email messages are personalized to the person and company the phishers are sending them to. Making company references and getting the persons name correct creates trust and the message may seem real at first glance. The messages included in the email are also well written and don’t contain common grammatical errors.
