It is round, sticky, and many households have at least one roll. What is it? Duct tape. It isn’t just duct tape for some entrepreneurs who have made a business out of duct tape.

After college Garett Croft Stenson had no money and was living with his parents in Portland Oregon. His hobby was creating duct tape wallets which he learned in his dorm room. Stenson then took them to a local market and sold them for $8 to $15.

What Garett Stenson didn’t know is that they would be a hit. He was hearing from stores who were interested in selling his product at art shows nationwide. After Stenson hear this he thought he could turn this into a real business.

“I thought this could be a real business,” Stenson said.

Stenson would spend up to 90 hours a week making duct tape wallets. He then hired people to help produce them for him which has turned his product from selling it on a street market to an idea of ‘Lets go big’.

In 5 years Stenson’s business, DB Clay is creating a thicker type of duct tape in China. He is hoping to make at least $500,000 in sales this year. Stenson isn’t alone though. Many small business who sell wallets, handbags, jewelry and other products made from duct tape are becoming more interested.
