The other day, we made a post about whether or not Yahoo! should acquire Facebook. Facebook generates revenues in the millions and will probably reach the billions within a few years. However, the other day (Friday) 6 British companies pulled their advertising from Facebook. This probably put a small dent in Facebook’s advertising revenues, but losing 6 companies is never a good thing to happen.
The 6 British companies - Vodafone Group PLC, Halifax PLC, Virgin Media, Prudential PLC, First Direct Bank, and Automobile Association Ltd. all withdrew their advertisements from Facebook. Why? Because their advertisements appeared on the Facebook page dedicated to the British National Party, an anti-immigrant group devoted to the far right political party. By late Friday, there were no ads displayed on the British National Party’s Facebook page.
