Over the years products are marketed by promising consumers help to burn more calories. But is there anything you can do to increase the amount of calories your body burns each day? Most people say that this is a yes and no question, but most agreed that the answer to burn calories is the old fashion way – by moving more. There is no other known way to increase our metabolism or burn more calories, other than to move more. Over the years though, research suggests that there may be a few other ways to increase how many calories you burn. Here are some possible ways to burn more calories and fat.
Exercise
Lets face it, it is a proven fact that the more time you spend exercising and the more vigorous the exercise, more calories will be burned. Even if you only take a morning walk/jog every day, it is one of the most single important advice anyone can receive if they want to burn more calories. When you exercise your body burns calories to fuel your activity. Even after you have finished your workout, your body is still burning more calories. It is hard to tell how long it this effect last, but studies have shown that depending on how vigorous your training was, your body’s metabolic rate can possibly be elevated for at least 24 hours.
Do Strength Training to Build Muscle
When exercising, you use things called ‘muscles’. Exercising helps build muscle mass, and muscle tissue burns more calories. It has been shown in studies that muscle tissue burns more calories even when you are at a resting stage than body fat. It is said that 10 pounds of muscle will burn 50 calories in a day spent at rest, while 10 pounds of fat will only burn 20 calories.
The most effective way to increase your metabolism and burn more calories is by aerobic exercise and strength training. When you get older your metabolism tends to slow down, so strength training becomes even more important as we age. One way to stop the slowing of your metabolism is to add strength training to your workout for about 3-5 times a week. The largest muscles are also the largest calorie burners, which are the thighs, abdomen, chest, and arm areas.
Eat Smaller More Frequent Meals
Whenever you eat or snack, your gastrointestinal tact is turned on, and starts digesting food to absorb nutrients that your body needs. It takes calories to fuel digestion, so it makes sense that the more meals or snacks you eat throughout the day will help you burn more calories. If you are stuck by eating 2-3 very large meals a day, this can screw up your metabolism. Try eating 4-6 mini meals everyday. By doing this you’re fueling your digestion track constantly throughout the day which will allow you to burn fat and calories.
Over the next few days I will be posting a series of posts explaining more steps on how to burn more calories and fat. So stay tuned.
