About Gregg
Welcome Readers,
My name is Gregg Hawkins and I am currently a 2nd year, full time student at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. I’m majoring in business administration, and I’m planning on a marketing concentration. I’m also looking into double majoring in economics and having a minor in graphic design or nutrition. I’d like to consider myself a web savvy entrepreneur who enjoys the face of a challenge. I live by a quote “no hard work is left unseen,” and a saying that I’d rather fall short chasing impossible dreams than not try at all. Overcoming adversity has been a challenge since high school and I’m pretty used to it by now. When someone tells me that something isn’t possible or that an idea of mine will never work it fuels the fire inside of me. I will succeed in all of my endeavors, present and future. You probably already get a feeling of what kind of individual I am. Not a day goes by that I don’t put forth the best of my abilities for a specific task and strive for the best.
In the spring of 2006 I pledged a fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. The Epsilon Rho chapter of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo has just over 70 active brothers. Contrary to popular belief, pledging and joining a fraternity is an experience worthwhile. Being able to join a network of fellow brothers around the nation, and knowing that everyone one of them will have your back in a time of need is an asset not many can say they own. The experiences I gained through the pledgeship process helped create the person I am today. Having a group of guys working for the same common goal and supporting each other through hardships is what makes a fraternity and it’s brotherhood; the bond. The pledgeship process helped me become a leader, manage my time accordingly, be prepared for any obstacle, and being organized through my daily life. The bond created through the pledgeship process is something indescribable, and becoming an active brother is even more extraordinary.
I was adopted at 5 months old along with my identical twin from Pusan, South Korea. No one can really understand the bond identical twins have with each other. Simply put, we’re best friends. I played baseball for about 10 years, including 4 years in high school. I obtained the 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of eight. I’m currently working on business plans for the future along the side of my brother. To me, waking up every morning and repeating the same routine day after day is not a life I wish for myself to live. I want to be able to have complete control of what I do, when I work, and the quality and effort I put forth into every aspect of my life.
I’m interested in a wide variety of things. All of which I hope to accomplish within my life sometime soon. I’ve been very interested in learning how to play the piano and acoustic guitar at a more advanced level. I’d have to say that my passion for music has been lifted in recent years and plays a major role in my life. I can’t go a day without listening to music, it sooths and keeps me going for the days challenges. Music is the mind and soul. I’ve recently just took up surfing and hope to excel in that sport as well. I never knew that surfing could be so difficult until I experienced it first hand. It being the waves crashing into my body with brute force. Photography is also another activity I wish to partake in the near future. In my opinion a photo is worth a million words and I hope that I can catch that one special moment with the shuttering of a lense; that 1 millisecond capture to share to the world.
Weightlifting is another interest, or you could say hobby of mine. I’ve been an avid weightlifter since about sophomore year of high school. Many events lead to this “lifestyle,” the main being discrimination. I had a passion and loved it, gave up everything for it, trained hours upon hours for it, and in the end for judgment and discrimination to come into play over skill is absurd. Baseball was my passion that lead to weightlifting. Being told that “you’re too small and can’t compete at the next level,” tore my brother and I up inside. In what world is someone, a coach, to tell another that they can’t do something? Obviously our imperfect world, mother earth. For the next two years in high school my brother and I trained and weight lifted twice as hard as any one around us, guaranteed. We excelled in baseball and overcame adversity. Weightlifting, overcoming impossible boundaries, creates the physical aspect of life - the body.
Currently, I’m interested in just building a business with my brother. My future goals include; learning HTML, XHTML, PHP, and C++. The internet and web design interest me because there are no boundaries. The only judgment one can make is based on the website, not the person. Only your mind creates boundaries. I spend a lot of time researching and hopefully by this June 2007, I’ll be able to start to create my own legacy, day by day, and become the success I’ve always envisioned myself to be.
YITBOS,
Gregg “OSAKE” Hawkins
